How can I hardwire the EconoHeaters?
What size room will the heater warm?
A room about 10 ft long by 10ft wide (100 square feet) with average insulation. Our 400 watt heater model has been specifically designed to heat on average a room size of 100 square feet of floor area even in the coldest parts of northern USA and Canada. In rooms that have one or more of the following conditions: inferior insulation, many windows, staircases leading upwards, adjoining rooms that cannot be closed off (open plan) or outside entrances - this ratio may have to be lowered slightly. For rooms with above average insulation or warmer climates this ratio might be able to be increased. You can add as many heaters as you like to heat any size room, home or office. For rooms with no insulation or for rooms such as sunrooms with entire walls made of glass we recommend a ratio of one 400watt heater per 50 square feet of floor area.

How economical is it to run the heater?
It is one of the most economical heaters on the market today. Because the heater is of such a low wattage (only 400 watts), it uses on average 3 cents of electricity per hour to operate* depending on the region. This compares well with other space heaters that use up to 18 cents or more per hour.
(* 3c/hr is based on the US national average of 8 cents per kilowatt.hr)

What type of heater is an EconoHeater?
An electric, wall mounted panel heater.

What is the heater made out of?
Propriety, non-combustible poly fiberboard with a robust, nickel-plated, electric element embedded within. A 6' power cord and plug is connected to the heater via a custom-designed housing located at the bottom right hand corner of the 24inch x 24inch square heater. The heater is controlled by a lighted on/off switch on the front of the heater.

How does the heater work and why is the heater so effective?
Unlike a central heating system and portable fan heaters, which use forced convection, EconoHeaters create natural circulation of warm air within a room. They are mounted flush to the wall with spacers, creating an air gap against the large heater surface. Cold air is then drawn (inducted) into the air gap between the heater and the wall and heated rapidly to rise out of heater. It is this natural convection technology that allows EconoHeaters to be more efficient, effective and safer than radiator, fan, ceramic, gas and other types of heaters.
Is the heater safe for my children, elderly guests or pets?
Yes! This is one of the key features of the EconoHeater. In fact, it provides safety benefits for your entire family. The EconoHeater panels have no exposed elements and operate at a safe surface temperature of approximately 165°F. They also remove fire risks associated with other heating methods.

Does the heater provide a healthier living environment?
Yes! EconoHeaters eliminate the usual problems connected with allergy sufferers and dust disturbances because EconoHeaters do not use a fan. Additionally the low wattage of the heater and no exposed elements does not allow the air to dry out. Even sufferers of Dry-Eye-Pain syndrome can experience relief during the heating season by eliminating airbourne particles normally blown about by other heating systems.

How do I install the heater?
In less than 5 minutes a heater can be mounted to a wall with the included kit. Every heater has a D.I.Y installation kit with easy to follow instructions included. Please see the instructions page for more detail (click here).

Where should I install the heater?
For maximum efficiency, the EconoHeater should be installed as close to the floor as possible, however installation up to 18inches off the floor is common place.

Can the heater be installed in my bathroom?
Yes, EconoHeaters offer one of the safest bathroom heaters on the market. There are no exposed elements, thus eliminating any fire risk from accidental contact with towels or clothing. Additionally, the maximum surface temperature of the heater is only 165 deg, thus diminishing the risk of children or seniors being injured. EconoHeaters are safe even when exposed to moisture, occasional water or steam. However, please check with your local statutes regarding the use of electrical appliances in bathrooms or wet areas. Some jurisdictions state that electrical appliances must be installed above shoulder height and be out of reach of a bath or shower. Fortunately EconoHeaters can also easily be mounted up out of reach of children in the bathtub.

Will the heater match my room décor and how should I paint it?
Yes, Econo-Heat panels can be designed to blend in with any environment. You can paint them to match the exact color on your wall or you can brand them with a company or sports team logo. Paint the EconoHeater with one or two coats of ordinary PVA (acrylic) interior house paint. Do not use any type of acrylic enamel paints as these contain a high level of teflon or plasticizer content. Also, please do not use any type of undercoat sealers, because these also contain plasticizers. Sealers also contain an anti-fungus additive (like an antibiotic) to prevent moulding or fungicide growth - which can cause odors when the heater is in use.

How reliable is the heater?
EconoHeaters are constructed in such a way that they can be left on indefinitely. The heating elements are completely encapsulated within the panel and not exposed to the air. This means that dust will not collect on the heating wires and eventually cause a burnout, as is the case with many other types of heaters. Additionally, EconoHeaters do not need a fan, which is a high failure item on other heaters which must use a fan to blow hot air into a room. EconoHeaters are still in use today dating back to when we first started manufacturing 15 years ago.

Can the heater be left on for 24 hours a day - 7 days a week?
Yes, EconoHeaters are constructed in such a way that they can be left on indefinietely if needed. High energy heaters are typically oversized for most rooms and are ineffective in circulating warm air evenly around a room. As a result the room develops hot and cold areas. In contrast EconoHeaters are efficient, low energy heaters that due to their low operating costs and robust construction can be left on for long periods of time, heating rooms in a softer, more sustained manner.

How can the heater be controlled?
Right out of the box, EconoHeaters come ready to plug into a regular wall outlet and have a lighted on/off switch on the front of the heater. . Optional timers are also available that can be plugged into a regular household outlet. These are great to use with your panel heater as they can be set to come on and turn off throughout the day. Timers are inexpensive, easy to use and are great for operating the heaters in rooms when you know you will need them the same time each day (eg. bedrooms and bathrooms). The 7 day timer is a welcome feature for frequent travelers, too, who don’t want to come home to a freezing house after a trip. We also offer optional line-voltage thermostats. For more information on installing thermostats please see our Thermostats page.
